I wasn't sure where to put this, as I didn't want the Information thread to overflow, but here are some ideas about vampire ponies that would/could totally fit in the dream's canon! Anyone can pick and choose which of these things can be applied to their vampires, should they not wish to use all of these.
- Original vampire ponies are a twisted form of dusk ponies (bat-winged pegasi), and as with any other pony species, have their own natural magic.
- They are able to use a kind of illusion magic (or maybe minor shapeshifting as to not be detected by unicorns/alicorns?), where they can change or hide certain parts of their appearances to conceal what they are (making their ears, eyes and wings look normal, hiding their fangs, hiding their wings completely if they so desire, color changing, etc).
- They have a minor hypnotic effect, most common through eye-contact as per old vampire lore. It is used to make their chosen prey helpless and/or sheep-like so to prevent them from moving, trying to escape or fighting back when they go to feed. It could also be used to persuade, strike fear into or convince them they have seen nothing so the vampire would not be discovered. Of course, the strength of the hypnotism depends on how resistant a pony's mind is to such an effect. Some may not be able to be hypnotized at all.
- They also, naturally, have heightened senses, such as a sharp sense of smell, hearing and are capable of seeing in the dark.
- Their weaknesses are silver, and of course, the sunlight. Silver can burn them or wound them enough that their natural regeneration would not work as fast or as effectively on repairing the wound(s). The sunlight may have the same effect, but it has a higher chance of killing them if they are kept out in it for too long, like a few hours per se.
- Vampires are able to be effectively killed, if not forced or tied up out in the sun, by chopping their heads off.
- Vampires cannot turn other ponies into vampires by simply biting them, the blood has to be completely drained of the body before the affliction can take effect.
- Any pony species, like earth ponies, unicorns, pegasi or zebra/zebra hybrids who are changed into a vampire will not gain bat-like ears or bat wings (although they could certainly give themselves these w/ shapeshifting, maybe, but it would give away what they are). Their eyes and fangs, however, will still be an obvious sign upon change.
- The change will take affect after a few days, provided the body isn't left out in the sun.
- Vampires cannot get into any homes or buildings, unless it's a public building (like stores or meeting halls), without being invited in first.
- Vampires' reflections don't show up in older mirrors, backed with silver, but more modern mirrors show their reflections- as well as other reflective surfaces.
- Vampires are, of course, known through the many stories told about them. The few distant ponies that would have encountered and escaped a vampire would have spoken of them, but after generations of stories being passed down, they were dismissed as fairy tales and legends. There is always an inkling of truth in any new, fictional stories told about vampires, like their abilities and weaknesses, but on the whole they are thought to not be real. Very few, such as vampire hunters that may have come from a long line of vampire hunters, would know the truth.
- They are capable of seeing the world in color just like everyone else, only the color red might stand out most strongly while everything else looks slightly faded in comparison.
