The Princess and the Crystal Chalice
By Shimmer Wishes
Long ago, back when Equestria, off the shores of the Northern Luna Ocean there was fairly new there was a Princess by the Name of Ivy Jewel,
Born a Pegasus with later became who an Alicorn.
She was a pony who loved her subjects.., She had a coat as white as the freshly fallen snow, and a mane the color of the needle on an ever green tree.
Princess Ivy Jewel , was a kind heart who was often called the princess of Nature.
One year, when spring was a few weeks shy of coming Ivy began to notice strange things accruing around her kingdom.
The wild animal and creature she called her friends and subjects began to disappear..,or other wise act strangely.
Ivy couldn't place it yet she was sure something was off..., What could it be? What could be making the creatures disappear or act so strangely?
It wouldn't be but a few days at most two weeks before her answer came storming into her castle.
" Excuse me!? Whom might you be?" Ivy Jewel demanded of the orange pony who was grinning like crazy before her. It was with a cruel, almost clinical laugh that she was answered with, " They call me, Iron Scepter! Now you my dear are in my kingdom and it is time for you to leave before you like your little..,PETS.." The pony spat in her direction as he spoke making her wings flutter. " Fall to my powers! Of course , I suppose you could try and save your little kingdom and there is always a cure. If you can figure it out." He mocked her but there was something about the way he spoke that made feel as if at least part of him was telling the truth.
" Tell me what it is you have done to my subjects, Iron Scepter! " Ivy demanded as she stood to her hooves staring down at the orange stallion that was standing before her. It was as if he was thinking this was his kingdom, His palace to just walk in and claim it, didn't he know how she had worked to find a place of her own? A place for her and her friends to call they're own? No of course he didn't..,why would he.
"Oh don't worry Princess," Sneered Iron Scepter as he stared at Princess Ivy Jewel. My my what a foolish pony she was thinking that she stood even a small chance of saving her pets. It would the dumb'st thing he'd ever seen but surely this would be an interesting little game. In no time his zombie like army would soon be full force. But why not add a little more to his game by telling her a little of the 'cure'. "If your find the Crystal Chalice all will not be lost. However I wont make this game easy for you, I want this kingdom as my own and I will have it!" He said stamping his front left hoof on the ground in a dramatic fashion. Soon this alicorn princess would dethroned and then it would time to move on the rest of Equestria. Yes this was only stage one of his game or rather plan and he would love to see the faces of each princess as they fell.
"What, in Celestia's name is a Crystal Chalice?" Ivy Jewel tried to get her answer with fail as just as quickly and unannounced as he had entered the strange pony named Iron Scepter began to leave but she thought she heard him call as he was exiting through her front doors, " Be warned Princess, next time I come, This shall become my kingdom and not even your magic or pets can help save you from my rule. Good luck, Finding the Crystal Chalice. " Sneered the pony before leaving. This was far from good, Not only did she not know what Crystal Chalice is, as Ivy began to pace she thought of one place that might hold the answer she was seeking, the Canterlot library archives. Yes surely there a pony in need of an answers such as herself could find what she was seeking. Though she had to admit there wasn't much there right now, it was n't that long ago they where built. She could only hope really that Celestia had moved some of the knowledge that she needed into the archives.
It was decided then that she would go to Canterlot and search through the archives in hopes of finding the answers that she so desperately needed to find, However there was still the matter of dealing with the more then likely possibility of Iron Scepter returning to her little kingdom. How could she defend them if she wasn't here to do so? After pacing the floor for what seemed like hours, she let out a sigh. " Yes I must entrust my kingdom in the hooves of my guard. At least during this short time that I am away." Ivy Jewel told herself firmly that this was the right thing to do. That seeking the Crystal Chalice to save her kingdom, all the ponies and wild creatures alike that called this home. She would do it for them, it was her duty as the Princess of nature to save her kingdom from this threat. Even if it meant leaving it for a short while in order to find something she wasn't entirely sure was real. If it was though she had a feeling that where she was going would hold the answers was seeking at this time
Ivy Jewel's mind was racing as she flew across the northern Luna sea, the boarder that separated her kingdom from the main land of Equestria. She knew a boat would be more reasonable but yet it would take more time to have one sent from the main land to her small kingdom and then only to go back to the main land. No flying although tiring was quicker in many ways. She hoped that she was coming at an alright time for the Princess of the Sun, this was her only time and chance to get out of her kingdom for some time, and for a good reason she was now under a threat of loosing her beloved home!
Iron Scepter made his way back towards his so called base of operations, around him there was a small hoof-ful of loyal followers those who came to join him willingly. "Soon the kingdom of nature will be ours for the taking. Prepare yourselves my followers, the battle for our destiny's draws near! " He cackled as he trotted towards his favor little out look spot. His bright orange coat stood out in the early morning sun, " Soon, Equestria will be mine for the taking. Are you ready Celestia? First it will be the Nature kingdom, then slowly but surely I will be coming for you! That foolish Princess Ivy Jewel will never find the Crystal Chalice!" There was a sneer in his voice as he stared up the morning sky. No , He had ensured she stood little chance of finding the chalice when he created the spell to steal the kingdom from beneath her. The Chalice was lost to the ages. Surely no pony not even a princess could find such a powerful relic and save what they loved.
If he had to guess from the hints he had left with the little princess,
by now she would be on her way to find out what the crystal chalice was.
Oh would she be surprised when she found out he had left her with a spell the was to be only by the sister relic of the crystal heart!
Ah yes the Crystal heart,
it was another object of great power that of course right now was lost to the ages.
How long ago did the Crystal empire go into hiding? It was his own fathers obsession of lost kingdoms that fueled him to learn such a spell and learn of these objects.
But of course, unlike the heart, the Chalice wasn't in the empire..,no no he wasn't sure where it was but where it wasn't he could be sure of.
Where the Chalice wasn't was in the Crystal Empire its former home..,
one of its rulers had given it away for safe keeping from his understanding thousands of moons ago. But now its exact location was lost to the ages,
ah this was a fun little game.
He would have a kingdom and watch as little Princess Ivy Jewel tried pathetically to save her small weak little kingdom from his power.
" All in good time it..,You will fall to me oh Raiser of the Sun! Banisher of the moon!" Iron Specter thought out loud,
as watched the sun lift into the sky fully. War was coming and he was the one who was going to start it,
oh he hoped the princess where ready for him and what he was going to bring to the table of they're battlefield.
After flying for probably a good several hours Ivy Jewel made it the main land, just outside of Vanhoover where she would catch the next train to Canterlot. She wasn't sure what to expect of equestria's new capital as she hadn't been there in since well just after her own crowning. Now she was going back, but not for a friendly visit with her good friend Princess Celestia. No, this time she meant business for her whole point of going was to search the library archives for some sort of clue on what this crystal chalice was. For some reason it sounded familiar to her as if she had heard about it before, but could not place it. She would also warn Celestia of Iron Scepter ,for she feared that if she could not find the object that she was searching for..,he would soon be coming for her and her kingdom. She wished that she knew that time the trains ran, for the soon she boarded one the sooner she would be on her way to canterlot. Yes she could try to fly there ,but on her now tired wings it would not be a wise idea no, she would rest and let the train take her to Celestia's home. Then she could be of more use when it came time to search for what it was she was going all that way for.
Oh how she hoped this wasn't just fear talking, and that she was truly doing what was best for her subjects and kingdom.
The train she boarded stopped in canterlot around noon,it was time to prepare herself to talk to Princess Celestia. She hoped that the news of someone trying to take over an equestrian kingdom wouldn't take the Princess of the sun by to much of a surprise. For Ivy truly needed the help of her friend and fellow princess in order to stop this threat and find the cyrstal chalice. Her heart was pounding her chest when she reached the capital city. This was the moment of truth, would her courage hold long enough for her to find the knowledge she was seeking or would she faint at the sight of the enormity of the task at hand. Honestly she was hope she would have the strength to be courageous for those who needed her most yet, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to do it...
Celestia was rather surprised when she heard reports of Princess Ivy Jewel in the city, it was uncommon for her to see the Princess of nature since she lived so far away. Ye t she was also pleased, it had been several moons since they had last had a pleasant visit together and wasn't expecting this to be anything but another one of those. She only wished that she had been told ahead of time that she would be coming she would have sent a guard to be expecting her at the train station, surely it was least she could do to show how much she looked forward to these rare chances to met with her old friends. Since she had just received word however she had no way of knowing where in the city, Ivy Jewel was and so sending out a guard to greet her seemed rather pointless right now. She got the sense though this trip wasn't just about the pleasure of a visit with an old friend.
Celestia walked to a balcony that over looked the towns square, this would be the best place to see her old friend from. Now if only she could figure what the real reason behind Ivy Jewel's visit was. She was sure now more then ever that this wasn't another friendly visit. Especially since she had not received any prior warning of this visit. Yes, something more was going on here. She wasn't entirely sure what exactly what that was but she was sure she would find out, Hopefully soon as this wasn't like Ivy Jewel..,as a matter a fact she couldn't think of any of the princess she come to care for as if they where her family that would do such a thing.
Ivy Jewel tried her best to hurry through the city with out getting lost along the way towards the castle, there was a now more then ever an urgency to get to the Celestia and explain what was going on. She felt rather horrible about not giving her a heads up about her coming, but she had figured with the way things where back home, surely it would be understood and hopefully forgiven of her once she had explained. The Celestia she know wasn't one to be harsh with any sort of judgement or jumping to conclusions that wasn't her sort of thing. No she was patience and rather understanding so with any sort of luck she would at least be able to explain herself to and get a chance to see if she would get help.
With each step that she took her nerves became more clear, fighting them all the more hard. It was kind of hard to breath and her knees where shaking as she made her way towards the castle. Ivy Jewel was not sure what she gong to tell Celestia or how she was going to explain everything to her. This was only making her feel more nervous, yet she knew she had to be brave for those who had disappeared, acting strangely or even the ones who are still there acting like they're every day normal selves. It was for her whole kingdom she was here, each person or creature that was apart of it was important to her. As she neared the castle she heard her name being called as if it was from some where up high. After looking around for a few moments she saw Celestia waving to her from a balcony this was a little relieving seeing that her friend had heard about her already being in town.
Celestia had been waiting for close to maybe a half an hour when she spotted the white and green mare. " Ivy Jewel, please come inside!" She called down, of course she could fly down and greet her, but something about the way her fellow princess was walking or rather acting told her that she should perhaps give her a few more moments to collect her thoughts. It was that dissension that made her head back inside through the double doors that lead from her balcony. She would greet Ivy Jewel shortly and see what this was all about but would take her time in going to her.
As Celestia made her way through the castle slowly making her way towards the main entrance where she figured Ivy Jewel would wait for her until she came to greet her properly couldn't help but wonder, what it was that had made Ivy come to Canterlot, And in clearly such a hurry too. Something was wrong, yes she had come to the conclusion that something was terrible wrong in the nature kingdom. She would surely get to the bottom of this shortly. If she was going to be of any sort of help to her friend she of course first needed to get to get to the bottom of this issue, and that would mean discovering what the trouble was that had caused her to travel all this way. She eventually made her way to the entrance of her palace after only a moment she spotted Ivy Jewel looking more then a bit nervous as she stood near the end of the stair case. " Ivy Jewel, Its a pleasure to see you again. However I get the feeling this isn't a simple visit for the sake of pleasure. You seem nervous and shaken, Please tell me what is troubling you. " Celestia said as she walked to her friends side and rested one of her wings across her back in a hopefully soothing manner.
Ivy Jewel was looked up as she saw Celestia coming near, " You are right when you say this isn't a visit for pleasures sake I'm afraid. " She confessed letting out a sigh as she shook her head ever so slightly. " Yesterday, around noon at the last'st a strange stallion by the name of Iron Scepter came storming into my land and palace. He confessed to being behind a recent disappearance in my subjects and the wild life with in the kingdom. He also said that he would be back, and if I wanted to save my kingdom from his reign the only way to do so was to find something called a Crystal Chalice? I'm not even sure what that is but I had a feeling with in me he was telling the truth at least on that matter, and that if anyone would know what that was it would be you Celestia." She spoke in a shaky voice as if fighting back tears, this whole ordeal was overwhelming and she wasn't sure how much more of it she could take. If any of it at all, it was all so stressful yet she was needed to remain strong for those who needed her sake.
"I am afraid I had not the time to give you a proper warning of my visit because of these event, and I am begging you. Please if you know anything either about this pony or about this item of which he spoke tell me. My citizens are starting to disappear or not act right almost trance like would be the way to describe them. I fear he may have put some spell on him and that this Cyrstal Chalice of which he spoke is my only hope of saving my beloved kingdom and citizens. " She spoke in a respectful yet troubled tone as she stepped out from underneath Celestia's wing in order to face her properly. She had to see her reaction for herself, she need to known if she did have any idea of what this item was..,and what it could do to save the nature kingdom.
Celestia herself was rather shocked to hear Ivy Jewel mention some pony threatening the Nature Kingdom, And then her shock grew to disbelief when the Crystal Chalice was mentioned, " Ivy Jewel, Who ever this pony is they are not to be taken lightly. If they know of the Crystal Chalice and its power then I'm afraid that all of Equestria maybe in trouble if we do not act quickly. Come with me please, I have something I need to show you in the archives." She said feeling herself grow a little worried it had been some time since Equestria had fact a threat, or had any pony that knew of the crystal chalice.., not since the Crystal empire itself vanished some moons ago. She quickly lead Ivy Jewel towards the archives with the hopes of showing her just exactly what it was she had been told about and what its powers where.
" I don't understand Celestia, if you had this knowledge . Why am I just now hearing about it? I've heard of the Crystal Empire before, But I was just a filly when it disappeared. But I'm still confused as to what this book on the Empire and its Relics of powers as the title itself says has to do with my reason for coming here. " Ivy Jewel said feeling more then a little confused as she stared at Celestia. She had to admit to feeling more then a little helpless in this situation, her whole kingdom was counting on her finding the answers and saving them...,But she knew Iron Scepter was working against her even as of now. To Ensure that her home..,wasn't gonna be hers anymore by the time she got back. She was afraid that even as she sat here speaking that the strange pony was making good on his threats to take her kingdom for himself.
Iron Specter had spent the night and a good part of the morning studying , What he was studying was way to better his spell. It had to be perfect...,Right now it was rather flimsy at best. Sure he had some ponies under his control or used his army to make them simply disappear in the dead of night from the lands..,Well that wasn't really true his dungeon was rather full right now of unwilling victims. That would soon change as soon as he could improve his spell. However if he wanted to do this he would need a little help making his magic more powerful...,more dangerous to that silly little princess, no not Ivy Jewel he thought with a sneer Celestia and the rest of them...,They where the real threats they had been princess for far longer and surely would be expecting him by now.
As Noon came close by he decided it was time to set the next part of his plan in action not the part of taking over the little nature kingdom, but the part of improving his magic. Yes, Iron Scepter thought it was time to get the one item that was powerful enough to take on the foolish little princess. The Windigo's crown, though it wasn't exactly ever used by a windigo. IT was more about the power some pony had lost their lives harnessing, a tiny a mount of the windigos magic. It was so powerful with just that small amount that it had been hidden away...,lost to the ages never spoken of or so every pony wanted to believe. He had reason to believe that it was hidden away within a cave where that same pony who tried to harness the windigo power had lost their lives...,oh but it wouldn't be for nothing now. He would rule equestria with that crown on his head. Of course he would have to ensure with a little dark magic of his own that the power of the windigos was his to control or at least that with in the crown. After all the spell had never been completed now was his chance to make a mark on history. Be remembered for all time as the ruler he was destined to be!
Celestia raised a hoof to quiet Ivy Jewels questions for a moment, " I didn't tell any pony, the only other ones who knew of this relic was my sister Luna and King Sombra. Both of which are no longer around, as you know. I kept it a secret because of the powers the Crystal Chalice holds is only reviled by the Crystal heart..but that is hidden away in somewhere with in the Crystal empire. Its as gone as the empire itself." She explained trying her best to help Ivy to understand why she had kept it a secret until now.
She said feeling herself grow a little worried it had been some time since Equestria had fact a threat, or had any pony that knew of the crystal chalice.., not since the Crystal empire itself vanished some moons ago.
