Gleaming Echo paced on the edge of a rather familiar pond. Where once might have been a stallion of cream and blonde/orange was a taller, darker, 'mare' as he gazed out into the lake. "Now... how do I get out there and find that armoire..." he narrowed his eyes and flicked his tail. Nopony really knew that he had hijacked their body to come out here. Gleam had wanted to take a nap so her he was.... It was nice to be in 'his' own body though... Even if it didn't have the right 'stuff' for a stallion of his preferred hobbies! Bah, if he had balls they'd be like giant blueberries right now he was getting so blueballed! No, no... keep your head on Tarnished.... Don't think about that! He was already emitting magic from his irritation; no need to accidentally blow up the lake! Then he'd never find that accursed armoire!
Lord Sombra traveled for miles with the two extra ponies he'd gathered, unwillingly, to reach this small town. There was no idea that he was so close to the six who had helped in his last defeat, that this was their home, but as usual he kept to the shadows of the woods. He also had no idea that the arabian he'd met back in Fillydelphia was here, too, and his merry band. All of it, unknowns. They kept to the place known as the Everfree, which was the strangest place Sombra had witnessed thus far.. and that strangeness seemed to keep most ponies out. A safe place for him, in other words, with no chance of anypony stumbling across them. This day went on as normal, for a while, until his idle explorations brought the sensation of magic nearby. Unusual magic. Unlike a unicorn's.. almost something else. Sombra couldn't determine what it was, but he chose to follow it to the source out of simple curiosity.
Gleaming Echo stood on the edge of the 'pond' once again after a new round of pacing. Bah! Wretched pool of water; if only he could blast it with the heat of the sun; but he hated sunlight! It made him squint.... and was not good on his poor eyes. The nightmare cursed for the nth time that Gleaming Shield's experiences swimming had been lost in the mishmash of bucked up memories. He was rather unaware that there was another pony about, though... Especially one with such a delightfully evil feel to him! And an equally amazing eeevil appearance! Oh yes, if he knew he would have brought the note-pad so he could take such vigorous notes a certain purple alicorn would be jealous of! "Dammit! How am I supposed to swim own there if we don't know how to swim!" A certain tree found it an unfortunate target.... an was hit by a bolt of magic that blew it to pieces! "Ooooh that felt good... So cathartic."
Lord Sombra found his hooves leading him to the edge of a large clearing, and what looked like a small lake.. or a very large pond. The details of what it was didn't matter to him. He narrowed his eyes at the light that glinted off the flat surface of the water and turned away to survey its shores. It was close, now, and the dark pony it was coming from was almost overlooked by his sharp eyes. What finally drew his eye completely to them was the flash of magic, and the crackling fall of a blasted tree. Rather close to his position.. Sombra stepped back to use the other trees as a shield, and waited until it was safe to step out. There was something about that magic that reminded him of.. a certain alicorn's.. but it felt wrong. Strangely wrong. Sombra had no reason to come out and approach a pony, but this interested him enough to want to. It was possibly ultimately useless information, but regardless.. Those strange eyes narrowed and Sombra stepped out to make himself visible.
Gleaming Echo glared balefully at the water and sagged to a sitting position. Where did a pony um... learn to swim anymore anyways? It wasn't like he could magick up a fishing lure and catch the armoire that way! Alas with his anger vented even he began to notice that something was... amiss... He took a deep breath and let out a long sigh of delight. "Something delightful is nearby." the nightmare muttered and looked about. That was about the time that Sombra stepped out. Tarnished's eyes snapped to the pony and he went totally stiff. That pony lookd so.. so... so cool! So Evil! Tarnished's breath was caught in his face aaaaand... was there a bit of a blush. He'd never, ever, ever admit it! "Hello..." He could hardly help the delighted purr at such a paragon of dark awesomeness...
Lord Sombra kept quiet, waiting to see if they might notice him. He had no intention to approach until then, for surely he'd frighten the pony away, though they were brave enough to come so deep into this dark forest. Alas, Sombra had little idea that a pony would look his way like that, let alone have such eyes. What were they? He could see well enough that this was a unicorn, and a mare (or so he assumed, as he had little idea what they identified as). The king quirked his head at the greeting and strode out further towards the pond, those eyes still narrowed in thought on how to approach. "I'd ask why somepony such as yourself is so far out in these woods, but what I'm more interested in is what you are." Sombra wasn't much for hellos.
Gleaming Echo let out a bit of a meep type of expression as ~ That voice! It made the nightmare practically giddy with glee! "You sound sooooo EVIL! Ooooh you are what I'd wanna be if I didn't get based off of Lady Nightmare!" he cooed as he bounce and clapped his fore-hooves together. He might act like a buffoon when excited but well... at the same time one could notice the glint behind his eyes! See ~ This is why he wanted to find the armoire! Maybe he'd be a bad-ass like this pony! "I'm a Nightmare ~ Crafted from the remnant of Lady Nightmare Moon... I think.. I'll have to get back to you on that. I might not really know how I was made... How did you get yourself to look so evil! If I were actually a mare I'd tooootally want to bang that! I'm dreadfully behind on my quota of fun for the month. Do you have any idea what that does to a stallion stuck without a prick!?.." Oh yes, but even still the vibrant blush betrays you oh Tarnished dear......
Lord Sombra halted, one ironshod hoof barely lifted above the ground at the abrupt gushing coming from the mare. Evil? It was not a word he ever considered for himself, only monster, but he knew enough about his kin to know that ponies would readily label them so. "Lady Nightmare?" Sombra repeated. Nightmare Moon? The museum had told him as much that Princess Luna did fall and title herself so, before Celestia banished her, too, for a thousand years. This was later confirmed for him by the pony. The king couldn't help but gape a little in confusion, lip slightly curled to bare the sharp points of his teeth. "Nightmare?" Sombra's knowledge on nightmares were dragon-pony hybrids. This wasn't.. "Are you not a mare?" He snorted and shook his head. Off topic. "Do you know of umbrum?"
Gleaming Echo tried to pull the reigns in on his damn uh... did he find evilness attractive? Probably... along with power and devilish good looks... And the occasional angelic beauty that was Yunie! Alas he quickly shook his head and looked back to the dark pony again. "I've read the term before in a few old books but that is about as far as it goes..." he'd say only to grimace as he recalled the question before. "If you go by what is between my legs at the moment I'm definitely a mare... But I was created from the fractured soul of a stallion... My other half is male. And I really wish it was the other way around! Gleam is such a goody two shoes! I just want some fun; is that too much to ask for?!" and the ham was back as he fell to his stomach and hung his head morosely. His head snapped back up to the dark pony again and smiled. "Oooh! Might I ask who you are? I'm Tarnished Echo ~" and... from the vague squee was he... fangirling?
Lord Sombra smoothed out his face again, hiding his confusion at meeting such an odd.. being. As strange, if not stranger than, the old wizard and his hat obsession. He was trying to ignore what he'd heard so far of this pony's desires, and saw on their face. And everything this stranger was saying so far drew more questions than was answered, but the mention of being created from a 'fractured soul' interested him. "Shadow pony, as they are simply called." Despite the umbrum being not quite ponies. "Other half? I suppose not." Sombra rumbled if just to.. soothe this 'Tarnished' as he learned his name to be, to get him to calm down. "I would hate to deny you my name, but I have reasons for keeping it. If you would be willing to keep a little secret.." A persuasive tone entered Sombra's voice as he peered down at the now laying pony. "I am King Sombra."
Gleaming Echo furrowed his brow and looked rather interested in the coined term. Umbrum were shadow ponies? He has never heard of such beings before! The nightmar however perked up at the mention of secrets! Oh how he loved secrets! "I would be happy to keep a secret for somepony so EVIL!" He managed to keep himself from make another squee... Some dignity maintained... Alas Tarnished's ears perked upon hearing the name only for a puzzled look to fall over him. "Regretfully I can't say the name means anything to me; but I'm quite sure ponies would shake in their boots from the Eeevilness!" he crooned and flicked his tail.... "Such a powerful voice to! Kinda wish I was a mare right now.." he wiggled a bit 'uncomfortable'.
Lord Sombra lowered himself to sit down, his heavy brow slightly furrowed when the excited pony didn't recognize his name. He was apparently unheard of and unknown in Equestria, not even a single legend. The king exhaled heavily, but quietly basked in the attention from Tarnished. "In a way, you are, have you not said?" Sombra pointed out. "Alas. Perhaps someday all of Equestria will fear to even breathe my name, once I take back the Crystal Empire from that princess." He growled; all this time, those alicorns lived in wealth and comfort while he now slept on the ground like some homeless peasant! Sombra shook his head, teeth slightly bared. "I cannot imagine why any Equestrian allows those alicorns to rule, after all she banished her own sister too.. What is to say she wouldn't do the same to others at a whim? That is not somepony you should allow to lead." Did he intend to turn ponies against their own leaders, so that they'd replace them with weaker ponies? Even Sombra didn't know.
Lord Sombra didn't even have a use or a reason to even talk to this pony. There were no plans, other than the single intent to go after the sisters, to manipulate them, to get what he wanted. "Why are you out in these woods, anyway? Do the ponies reject such as you?" Quietly implying that Tarnished wasn't a pony, either.
Gleaming Echo made a bit of a sound and his slit-pupil eyes glowed in the shade of the forest. "It is through no fault of your own. I'm rather sure that Equestrian ponies would tremble before your darkness!" one might say he was a bit of a kiss-ass.... The reminder that he was technically a mare made him wince and also flare up with a blush at the same time. "Please, please, please don't remind me! You are really hard to resist even for me! Then again I'm not really trying very hard but what would dear Yunie think?! Out buckin in the woods because I- should probably stop talking on those lines." he'd squeak and shake his head. "Bucking body of mine!" he grumped. "I'm out here to see if I can find the armoire that cursed my counterpart and I before. It caused those that stepped inside to get um... gender-swapped. I was thinking on using that for my own purposes." that was an amusingly evil grin for such a 'trivial' mission. The last question was merely nodded to in reply.
Lord Sombra frowned but for a brief moment at the nod and rumbled quietly the way Tarnished reacted. It was amusing to him to see yet another blush lighting up on the other unicorn's face over the subject. It made a cruel grin curl the corners of his mouth, sharp teeth glinting yet again. It was tempting just to tease the poor, flustered nightmare- for his own entertainment. "The forest is no place for such a thing," Sombra agreed, "laying something as lovely as you out on a bed would be far better. Unfortunately, I have already picked my queen." The king partially turned away to glance out over the lake, looking puzzled. "A cursed armoire? Did you not try a spell to track its magic?" Curses, those were something Sombra was particularly good at.
Gleaming Echo found his eyes going all comically wide as he gazed upon the 'dark king' that was before him. The blush multiplied in intensity and the poor 'mare' gulped just a bit. "Terrible, terrible tease! So amazingly sinister... So sexy to... such a pity!" he purred only to shake his head visibly and stare out at the water. "By the Dark Moon!" he sniped and growled at himself. "I already have my dear goddess and our companions.... You may be extraordinarily good looking AND evil but Yunie is so cute and has the most adorable wings!" there 'might' have been a bit of a squee again. The notion of using a curse-tracking spell made him sigh and hang his head. "I can't... When we were created our... progenitor's memories were shredded during the trauma.. I have some and Gleam has some.. But we lost most of it."
Lord Sombra looked to the nightmare out of the corner of his eye, greatly amused by Tarnished's reaction; he might've been expecting him to swoon, but it was close enough. The praise was a plus, because Sombra was arrogant and vain. "I take it you have companions," The king mused. Companions, and a mare friend perhaps? The mention of Tarnished's supposed.. creation still confused him. What did he mean? Did one pony become two? A split personality? Sombra couldn't tell. "In that case, mayhaps I can assist you, provided you tell nopony of our meeting or that I even still live.. and perhaps if you might know anything of goings on in Equestria, or the Crystal Empire." Sombra really didn't think Tarnished knew much about the latter, if he didn't even recognize his name.
Gleaming Echo split his face into a wide smile as the evil pony offered 'assistance'.... Although part of him was bothered by the very notion that he was being offered assistance in the first place! "Indeed I do... I'd more than happily blow up a city for them!" aaaand he really would, and did...But one thing bothered him. Evilness didn't offer aid! Alas the dark pony made a bit off a huff and nodded. "That would be... appreciated." he'd say only to grimace. "I can tell you what I know, however my companions and I have been away in Saddle Arabia for a while... At least I got to have some fun there..." he seemed to cheer up at the memory of the destruction! The fun he had with that mare that dared talk smack with them! Hehehehe... yeeees....That was such delightful fun.
Lord Sombra figured it'd be good incentive to get Tarnished to talk, if this pony celebrated evil.. Well, perhaps he would tell what he knew at a mere request regardless. It was an exchange, regardless, rather than help. Sombra lifted an ironshod hoof and used a toe to idly scratch at a spot on his throat, between jaw and metal gorget. "A period of unknown information, then, but what do you know as it is? Tell me everything." There was more of a command in his tone, as he hoped to put Tarnished's mind back on track to what the king wanted.
