Summer had already come and gone, leaving autumn in its place. The leaves on the trees have changed to their usual, multi-colored splendor and the air was properly crisp and chilly. It ruffled the mane of a certain dark pegasus as she soared over the village, peering down at all the decorations. Various jack o' lanterns scattered the streets and sat by doorways, fake bats and cloth ghosts hanging from trees and various other places, with balloons and more! Shadow couldn't help but pick up on Ponyville's excitement, something that seemed almost tangible now, and let it lift her up on its wave. She did a small loop in the air, giddy, before she tilted into a gentle dive and landing onto the dirt of the town square. Here she paused, watching all the busy ponies still setting things up for tomorrow night.
Dr. Stable was just exiting his place of business for the evening. It was a rather slow day and not many ponies needed to be tended to thankfully, so he excused himself from work early. The good doctor had deposited his papers, placed his stethoscope into his jacket pocket and applied his monocle back onto its proper place in front of his eye. As he trotted out the doors he gazed around at the festive decore. Fall and Nightmare Night are his favorite! He took a deep breath to inhale the crisp, chilly air and all of the seasons scents that it had to offer. A grin placed itself upon his lips and he moved on down the road. The stallion greeting everypony he passed by. He adored Ponyville and all it had to offer for the season. He trotted past a mare he had never met before. He pondered if she was new to him. Gracefully approaching her, he introduced himself. "Greetings! I am Dr. Stable." His voice deep but gentle and friendly with an accent to place.
Shadow Dart. As she stood there, her eyes roved over the final stalls as they were put up; where tomorrow they would bear games and snacks. Her gaze was torn away from these things as she heard a stallion's voice greet her and turned to find a unicorn male with a clean white coat and red mane, a monocle over one blue eye. "Oh, hello!" The pegasus responded, if a bit shyly; socializing wasn't quite her forte. "My name is Shadow Dart." As she gave her name in kind, she folded her bat-like wings as she thought of what to say next. "It's surprising that it'll already be Nightmare Night tomorrow, but exciting too isn't it?"
Dr. Stable chuckled happily. "Precisely! What pony is not excited for tomorrows festivities?" He spoke cheerfully. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Shadow Dart." He said as he dipped his red maned dome. The doctor noticed her unique bat wings. "Your wings, they are extravagant! You will fit right in with tomorrow!" He complimented to her with a smile. Her coat was also quite unique with its unusual appearance. Her bright jade eyes were indeed quite captivating. The good doctor collected himself. "If there is ever anything I can do for you, please do feel free to ask!"
Shadow Dart returned the small bow, one foreleg bent momentarily, as she offered him a smile. The expression was swept away, however, by a look of surprise at the compliment. She lifted one odd wing to look at it, as though she had just realized it was there. Her smile slowly returned as she nodded in agreement. "You know, you're right. I probably won't have to use a costume at all." Shadow replied and turned her gaze back onto him. "Well, thank you. I'll keep that in mind," She said and paused, "This is one of the few times I've been to Ponyville.. I usually stay up in Cloudesdale, but I should visit here more often."
Dr. Stable returned the smile. "You are most welcome. If you still wanted to dress up though I am sure you would make any costume look spectacular!" The stallion gazed at her. "Oh? How is Cloudsdale? Being not one born with wings, I have absolutely no idea what it is like there." He chuckled. "But you should visit here more often then! It is always quite a sight for all occasions!" His blue eyes shined thinking back on all of the previous celebrations up to this point. The doctor cleared his throat and adjusted his monocle half nervously. "I do wish it was possible for somepony such as myself to visit Cloudsdale. I suspect they too have their own way festivities?" His grin grew with expectancy.
Shadow Dart listened to the doctor talk first, giving herself some time to answer. "Cloudesdale is always wonderful to look at. All the buildings are crafted from the clouds themselves, with graceful pillars and various waterfalls and fountains." She explained, if briefly, and nodded in response to the stallion's questions. "Oh they do. They also the same things: parties, games, candy for the foals, costumes and pranks. I think there are some that also shape clouds into monsters and the like for fun." Shadow said with a smile, "Though I might stay here for Nightmare Night tomorrow."
Dr. Stable was left in awe as the mare spoke of such wonders. "I have no words for how strongly my desire to see such a place is!" He spoke in a daze as his mind wandered, picturing such a sight. If only there was some sort of a way. He chuckled and returned to the real world. "I just couldn't possibly imagine it!" The stallion smiled as she mentioned she might stay. "You truly should, it will be a grand event!" The doctor noticed that evening was growing to night. The skies grew darker and darker as the sun was setting lower. The towns outdoors light fixtures were beginning to light on. Illuminating the fall night, setting the mood for tomorrows Nightmare Night. "Would you care to get a hot beverage with me, Miss Dart?" He offered kindly.
Shadow Dart smiled in response to the doctor's awe at her description of Cloudesdale. "Oh yes, but Ponyville has its own charms too. It's peaceful, usually." She replied with a small nod. Her eyes drifted skyward as he asked his question, noting how the sun was on its steady descent towards the horizon. It seemed the Princesses were just as eager for tomorrow night, and why shouldn't they be? The bespeckled mare turned her attention back to the stallion with interest. "Oh of course, a hot beverage seems nice about now, especially with a cold night on its way."

End.
