Tempest Fury. The Night Guard had been given a letter to deliver, which usually wasn't his sort of thing, mail delivery, but the Princess insisted that the matter was most important, and had to do with those recent reports he had been getting about Everfree recently. He had been planning to do this soon, eventually. Tempest rushed to where he knew his Princess would be at this time, barging through the door. "My lady," he shouted, searching with the utmost urgency, until he found her. "I have a letter from your sister, and much to report." He knelt, gasping for breath slightly. He had been running through the castle.
Princess Night kept herself in the library as of late, when she wasn't spending time with Midnight, to read. As long as the book she had delved into was of interest, it was enough to distract her of the odd worry and dread that had been bothering her since spring began. The book that lay open on the table in front of her, lit by the flame of a single candle, was her current interest until the library's tall doors burst open. The lunar princess gave a surprised jerk as she looked up from the story, her teal eyes focusing upon the guard that had arrived. It was Tempest. "Rise," Luna bid him as she rose from her cushion. "Give me your reports, and the letter."
Tempest Fury. The stallion immediately handed over said message, unopened, although he knew what was probably inside. "There have been scattered reports of strange happenings near the Everfree Forest. Disappearances. Odd sightings of unknown creatures," he reported in quick, informative bursts, although hidden underneath his tone was an eagerness, perhaps he wished to investigate these himself. "The ponies are becoming afraid because of this, and there are rumors, whispers, that something evil is stirring in the forest."
Princess Night's spiral horn began to glow with faded blue magic as she lifted the scroll he offered her from his hoof. She didn't open it right away, her gaze instead focused on the guard as he gave her strange reports. Did she feel surprised about this news? Not entirely; it almost seemed to offer itself as an explanation for why she'd felt so much dread and anxiety the past few weeks. "I see." It was all she said as she shifted her attention to the letter, her magic uncoiling the scroll, but she did sound thoughtful. Luna's eyes began moving back and forth as she read the letter, her expression darkening the further she moved down it. "Twilight, or rather Rarity, mentions a visitor who spoke to her of someone raising.. the undead? In Everfree Forest?" Luna frowned deeply as she rolled the parchment back up and stared at a spot somewhere over Tempest's head. "We must dispatch guards to Ponyville at once, enforce a curfew for the inhabitants safety.." She began, refocusing back on Tempest. "It may be too dangerous to send anypony into the forest, but we might have to send somepony, or a few guards, to investigate. We must find out who is working such dark magic and stop them at once."
Tempest Fury snapped to attention at the orders, at the insistence of the presence of guards and the initiation of a curfew. He cleared his throat. "I volunteer myself to lead this contingent, I will follow out and enforce the curfew while investigating these reports and," he paused here, perhaps for effect, but, knowing him, probably not. "I will engage the problem myself, if the need arises."
Princess Night flicked an ear as the guard responded, giving him an appraising look as he volunteered himself to lead. "You have my permission to, however, I would prefer you not engage, even if you are noticed. It is only if you are being attacked should you move against them, and only to defend yourself." The lunar princess replied. "We do not know yet who we are up against, so it is advised you be wary." Luna added and paused to think something over. "Make sure those who come with you are a small party. Those who go in on foot should be unicorns and skilled at stealth. Send another small party of pegasi on recon flights over the forest, tell them to look for anything unusual.. That is, something that is not the usual for the Everfree."
Tempest Fury nodded curtly to the command not to engage unless in self-defense. Maybe that was the wiser choice, but he would never let any of the innocent ponies in his charge come to harm. At least not without a fight. "I understand. Stealth is the imperative. Do not engage unless necessary." He stood up straighter, somehow, since he was already default of a fairly rigid posture. "We'll get to the bottom of this, milady."
Princess Night spent a moment longer running over anything else that was required, but she could find nothing else save one thing. "Princess Twilight lives within Ponyville, in the library nestled inside a large tree. If you ever need to send an immediate message to me about anything you find, or if the situation gets worse, she can send a letter to my sister and I. You may also seek advice from her." The dark alicorn said and dipped her head to the guard. "That will be all, for now. You may go, Tempest. I must go and speak to my sister more on this matter."
Tempest Fury gave the required bow in response. "Of course, milady. Thank you, milady." Words that, from some, might sound impatient, but from this pony, the words were very sincere. To him, the greatest honor came from defending the defenseless, and he would dutifully discover the source of these reports and send back more information. If those things were lucky, none of them would think to attack him.
Princess Night glanced back to her book after the dismissal to, momentarily, fold a ribbon into it to mark her place. It was closed and she left it to move around the guard, heading towards the library's tall, wooden doors. She would be off to consult with her sister, Celestia, leaving Tempest up to his orders.

End.
