Lord Sombra- Canterlot positively hummed wards new and old, some wards almost as ancient as the foundations upon which the castle stood. All crisscrossed, tangled, and layered on top of each other. Wards such as those that might detect and or reveal changelings were among newer wards. Those wards had been laid in the aftermath of the almost disastrous Canterlot wedding, or had been modified from a previously existing ward to encompass changelings too. Other wards reinforced that one such as contingency wards, alarm wards, and other wards which otherwise complicated any would be magical saboteur's job. But Sombra was no saboteur, and Sombra wasn't trying to teleport himself past the castle walls into Canterlot. The stallion had different plans. Personal effects which need be planted and left for all to see! Plans to enact and see to their eventual fruition. But first Sombra had to deal with the troublesome alarms.
Lord Sombra- It was a quiet night. Or day. The time wasn't necessarily important, though night seems reasonable enough. Guards patrolled the halls, and stood watch at almost every door. And from behind parapets too, high on top Canterlot's walls. All that the usual fare of typicality, incredibly droll and punctuated only occasionally by the scratch of quills. And then that all changed. Sudden as death or lighting, a mote of inky blackness formed upon the carpet. A mote which at first might be mistaken to be nothing more then the figment of a tired mind. But that mote grew larger. And then it began to coalesce. Whatever it was, the object seemed to have trouble coalescing, bubbling and fading from time to time. Sometimes even seeming to fade away completely! That soon changed, and swiftly the indistinct object began to form. From that inky blackness emerged an object. And when that inky darkness finally faded, left in the wake of the tenebrous fog was a crown as recognizable as the name that once bore it. For upon the fine red carpet laid King Sombra's ominous crown.
Princess Night. It had been another average day, if you could consider it that, in Canterlot, at least for most of its inhabitants. The royal sisters had a dire situation on their hooves, and had sequestered themselves within the palace's throne room. The door was shut and they were alone, save for the naga, Midnight, lounging nearby upon a pillow while the princesses had their discussion. It was a topic of which they were talking about for what felt like the fourth or fifth time that involved the situation at Everfree and Ponyville. No matter how many times they'd gone over it, however, neither could figure out who was causing the rise of the undead, or where anypony was disappearing off to. Even more! Some of the guards sent to search for the perpetrator had been reported missing too. Celestia sat upon her appointed throne in all her calm, sunny glory while Luna paced below, her brow drawn in frustrated thought.
"I still do not understand what could be this vile fiend's point for waking the dead!" She groused for what could only be the thousandth time as she struggled to make sense of it. Celestia bore the circular discussion patiently, although her pale face looked troubled. "I do not know. We should send word at once to the guard in Ponyville to stay out of the forest.. We don't need to lose any more of them." Celestia said at last, her tone ever calm in an attempt to soothe her agitated sister. "I would send Twilight and her friends into the Everfree to search, but I fear it would be too dangerous even for them until we discover more of what, or who, is behind this. Until then, we will have no choice but to wait until they come out of hiding." Celestia continued, her mouth pulled into a frown. Luna could only stop and look up at her sister, feeling helpless in the face of the truth of her sister's words. As if on cue, the disturbance forming in the middle of the throne room seemed to create the period to the end of their talk.
The growing darkness also served to draw both princesses attention, their faces equal expressions of shock and confusion. Celestia stood abruptly and strode down to stand beside Luna as they both watched, waiting for what it would reveal. And they did not have to wait long. The darkness receded as quickly as it came, leaving a crown they both knew well to sit quietly upon the red-pink rug. Celestia and Luna gave each other a knowing glance and approached the crown as though it were a venomous snake. "This.. cannot be. Was Sombra not vanquished by the Crystal Heart as we were told?" Luna managed at last, aghast. Celestia didn't answer right away and carefully lifted the crown in her magic. "It seems we were wrong, little sister. Alert the guard and increase security. It seems we have found the answer to your question at last."
