Jaxion Shadehorn stood smiling wide, his first new customer had arrived. It was time to put his skills to use and make money. "Hey. Would you like to order something? Our special today is..." He looked down at a piece of scratch paper, which had various scribbles of notes and money balance on it. "Cheesy bread? Hmm. I thought it was lasanga." he muttered aloud to himself. Looking up at the mare, he smiled and spoke proudly. "Today's special is cheesy bread."
Sunset Glow. The panic as of late over the reduced sunlight, and the circulating rumors, had been interfering with the noblemare's business. Very few ponies were visiting her boutique now, so she had little else to do but explore Canterlot. She had given her attention to certain places of note, but among this wandering she couldn't help but notice a new restaurant had opened up. Intrigued, she had entered and currently stood on the threshold when she'd been addressed. Sunset did not yet give the speaker her attention, not until she had surveyed the restaurant's interior. When it came to the nobles of Canterlot, businesses such as restaurants depended on their opinions on whether they would rise.. or fall. Until Sunset was satisfied with what she saw, she turned towards the counter and approached it as the stallion mentioned cheesy bread. Sunset quirked a brow. "Oh? I would like to try this 'cheesy bread' of yours."
Jaxion Shadehorn The stallion watched the mare glance all around the room. He could feel a sense of high stature and self-confidence from the mare. Smiling, he nodded. "Of course. Would you care for anything to drink? Choices are currently slim as I've only recently opened, but we only use the best ingredients in all our food and beverages. We have water, punch, and sweet tea."
Sunset Glow inclined her head a little as he mentioned the slim choices, but she didn't appear to mind. It was understandably hard to get a business going in a place like Canterlot, as she very well knew. "Hmm, sweet tea would be pleasant." The pale orange mare replied loftily. "It's always quite enjoyable to see new blood in the city. What is the name of your restaurant?"
Jaxion Shadehorn pondered for a moment, having not have made a name for it yet. "Hmm. I haven't really thought of a name for it yet, honestly. How does Cafe Jaxion sound?" he laughed a little, thinking the name he had requested slightly ridiculous.
Sunset Glow put a hoof to her chin in thought, her creative gears grinding a bit over the name. "Oh, I'm not so sure. Perhaps you could try for something a little more exotic. A name with a bit more flair that would interest the Canterlot nobility." The seamstress finally answered, her orange eyes narrowed a bit as she mulled it over. Sunset finally gave an embarrassed chuckle. "Perhaps I may assist you with, ah, a bit of brainstorming as they say."
Jaxion Shadehorn smiled, sitting back. "I would love to have your help. You seem like an intelligent mare that knows the town well, I believe. What do you think would suit this locale? What is it that ponies like yourself would like from an establishment like this? Perhaps a social gathering place, or more of a fine dining? Or perhaps something more family oriented?"
Sunset Glow responded with a slight, upward tilt of her lips before she waved a hoof at him. "Ah ah!" She admonished. "I do believe I am still waiting on what I ordered. A small piece of advice: though the customer may try to engage in conversation, always keep your attention, or most of it, on your job." The mare replied with a wink. While she left him to that, she turned in a small circle to take in the room as she formulated her answer. She also had to wonder, why help him, he who would essentially be nothing but the help to his customers? Sunset supposed she had a little to make up for, after a certain past event with her own ex customer-almost friend. "You decide what type of restaurant you desire to run, however, it must have class and charm. The food must be well made, and of course, appealing to look at. It matters as well as flavor! It would be good inspiration to look at other places in town, as well as seeing how to separate yours from all the rest."
Jaxion Shadehorn smiling still, he chuckled. "Don't worry, the bread is actually still being cooked. I threw some in just a little while ago so it'd be fresh and ready. You may sit wherever you'd like, and I'll bring you your meal in a minute or two. If you wish to sit at a table."
Pair A. Dice a sea blue pony walks into to resturaunt and looked around with intreague. "Um...Hello " he said with a smile.
Sunset Glow turned back towards the stallion with her head tilted slightly. "Quite understandable. Since this is the first opening, it is an easily forgiven slight. Yet I must let you know, that the nobility of Canterlot are used to plates that are always full, or food and drink at the ready the moment they call on it. That is, always have food ready before you open shop." Sunset said with a smile and a nod. The unicorn finally made to settle down at the nearest table to wait, but a newcomer caught her eye. She studied him as she pulled herself onto the cushioned seat and decided to notice his greeting with a small nod.
Jaxion Shadehorn smiled, listening to her advice. "Thank you kindly for your input, I shall keep it in mind." He turned to the stallion that had arrived. "Welcome, sir. Will you be dining here today?" he said with a kind smile.
Pair A. Dice walks straight up to the bar and sets his beat up saddle bag down on the floor. when he sits down he reaches into his bag and pulls out a bit purse and a few small dice roll out on to the floor."Hi, I'm starving I surly will be!" He says as he picks up the dice and sits up quickly and looks at the owner.
Sunset Glow seemed to settle into the typical attitude of the noble, in her silence, when the newcomer made himself comfortable at the bar. Normally she, like the others, usually chose not to acknowledge ponies unless they knew them to be ponies worth knowing. As ever, her eye for detail was uncanny as she spotted the blue stallion's beat up saddle bags, nevermind the sudden appearance of dice. Sunset fought back a grimace and instead politely crossed her hooves upon the table's smooth wooden top.
Jaxion Shadehorn "Well, what would you like to eat? Today's special is Cheezy Bread. " he asked, mostly ignoring the dice rolling out of his bag. Games were never much of an intrest of Jaxion's. However, he was curious as to why the stallion's bag was so distressed, causing him to glance at it for a prolonged moment.
Pair A. Dice notices The owners glance at his bag and gives a small smile out of slight embarrassment. He slowly pushes the bag under his chair and gives a toothy smile. " I...well...Cheesy bread sounds great! I'm visiting Canterlot from Ponyville...what is a Canterlot dish?" After saying this he looks at the mare next to him and gives her a smile. "My names Pair A. Dice but you can call me Pair." And he nods to the owner showing he can call him Pair too.
Jaxion Shadehorn pulled out a large pan of cheesy bread, slicing it up and putting it onto a plate. Picking up a cup, he filled it with tea and gently set the plate and drink in front of Sunset. Turning back to Pair, he smiled. "You see, a Canterlot dish could be many things." Opening a counter behind him, he showed off a small collection of plates and picked one up. "This can be considered a Canterlot dish. But so can that." He said, gesturing Sunset's plate of food. "What's more important is what is on that plate." He smiled, bringing out a drink menu. "Would you like anything to drink?"
Pair A. Dice gives a small laugh and smiles. "hmm...in that case." Pair rubs his chin as if he is thinking. as he does the smell of her tea wafts into Pairs nose " I'll take that fancy lookin' tea that she got, and a plate of your best pastry."
Sunset Glow felt relieved when the new pony, Pair, pushed his bag out of view. It was quite an eyesore, but there was nothing she would do about it; she wasn't exactly renowned for generosity. The noblemare stiffened a little as the blue stallion glanced to her, but she tried to push past her stuffy facade. "I am Sunset Glow." She finally introduced herself to the two, before her attention turned to her food and tea. At last! Sunset lifted the glass in her magic and sipped at it daintily, set it aside and took a bite of her cheesy bread. She had high expectations like anyone in Canterlot, of course, but she was surprised to find it was pretty good.
Jaxion Shadehorn frowned a little. "Pastry. Hmm I don't believe I have any, yet. However, I do have fudge brownies, if you're looking for something sweet." Turning back to Sunset, he smiled. "A pleasure to meet you. I'm Jaxion Shadehorn. How is everything? Is there anything I can get for you?"
Pair A. Dice nods to Jaxion "That sounds great, I'm always in to mood for sweets!" Puts a few bits on the counter.
Sunset Glow licked her lips as discreetly as she could after a second bite of her cheesy bread and nodded to Jaxion. "Everything is well. Your cheesy bread is delicious." The mare comments with a hint of a smile. "It was a pleasure to come into your restaurant today. I don't need anything else, other than what I owe after this meal." Sunset adds, reminded payment when Pair set a few bits down. "So, you come from Ponyville, do you?" She turns to the blue stallion and asks. "I've heard quite a few rumors floating around about your town."
Jaxion Shadehorn smiled in satisfaction. "Well, it'll be about ten bits each, for your meals. Prices will only be this low for a little while, until I can get things settled in better with the ponies of canterlot." Turning, he went to fix up Pair's meal.
Pair A. Dice looks at Sunset with a quizzical face. "Yes, I haven't heard any weird rumors going on at my game shop. What would anypony in Canterlot be saying about Ponyville?" Upon hearing the price for her meal he whispers to himself with a surprised look on his face. "10 bits for bread sticks wow I must be in Canterlot."
Sunset Glow set her cheesy bread back onto its plate, looking puzzled. "Oh, merely that I've heard about.. zombies.. loose in the Everfree Forest." The mare frowns and suppresses a shudder of disgust. I've also heard other, unrelated rumors about Princess Luna." She mentions as she pulls up her small purse, counting out the bits with her magic and setting them on the counter for Jaxion to take. Her glass of tea was lifted to her lips next, of which she takes a drink of. "I heard that Princess Luna is trying to usurp Celestia, with the way all these eclipses are happening."
Jaxion Shadehorn finished up with Pair's food and gave it to him. "The princess is trying to usurp Celestia again? Whatever reason would she wish to do that?" Taking the bits, he put them away in the register.
Pair A. Dice looks a bit surprised and fearful too. "Um..." Shuffles a little in his seat and swallows hard. "Th...th...those are only rumours." His voice cracks as he stutters a bit trying to keep his chin from quivering. mostly in hopes to change the subject you talks about the Princess Luna rumour. "I can't comment about....the princesses...I would think someone of higher status like you would know more about the eclipses...we county ponies don't get to hear to much about that..." Nibbles on his browny.
Sunset Glow merely shrugged as she set her sweet tea aside to take up her cheesy bread again. "I really have no idea. These are just things I've heard, you see. I'm not the type to believe everything I hear!" The dressmaker titters. "I wouldn't be surprised, though, if Princess Luna hadn't changed.." She frowns and studies Pair with a look of concern. Sunset quirks a brow. "Are they really?"
Jaxion Shadehorn "Neither am I. But I think I did overhear that something is going on in Ponyville. Didn't know what though." He sat back, not having any other customers to attend to.
Pair A. Dice looks down at the counter and takes a deep breath. "I'm sorry can I get some water...." He clears his throat. "No....They aren't....when I left Ponyville...." Pair is no longer eating his browny and just pushing it around his plate. "They told me not to talk about it....I....we in Ponyville are thinking the eclipses have something to do with it..."
Jaxion Shadehorn stood to fetch Pair a glass of water.
Pair A. Dice takes it and drinks it rather fast even though he is in a fancy restaurant.
Sunset Glow's gaze returned to Jaxion as she took the last few bites of the bread, looking intrigued. "Yes, it's hard to tell what's really going on with the rumors. Naturally none of us Canterlot folk have really any relatives or friends in Ponyville we can even ask for the truth." She frowns, disappointed; but clearly she had an enjoyment in swapping rumors like any other highclass pony. Sunset casts another concerned glance towards Pair's odd behavior and wondered: was it true? He seemed awfully nervous. "How strange."
Jaxion Shadehorn "I've never been to Ponyville before, so I wouldn't have a clue really. Sounds like it's something alright." He glanced at Pair, wondering what he knows of what's really going on.
Pair A. Dice a small bead of sweat can be seen racing down his neck. He looks at Sunset with a pained look in his eyes seeing she appeared to just enjoy the gossip. "This isn't something you fancy, high tottering Canterlot ponies cares about is it..all you want to know is the gossip so you can go to your friends and be the one with the biggest piece of meat." His normally jovial face frowned. Placing 3 bits on the table as a tip he runs out of the restaurant leaving his beat up old bag.
Sunset Glow's brow only furrowed as Pair showed further discomfort. When he spoke, her hoof drifted up over her painted lips as she watched him tip and leave the shop without anything to follow up what he'd just said to her. The mare frowned, looking troubled. "Ah.. Hm." She struggled with a way to respond to this upset, but she had noticed he'd been awfully bare when he'd left. Her eyes moved to the underside of his chair, where lo and behold, he'd left his saddlebags. "O-Oh. He seems to have forgotten his bags. Perhaps I let my curiosity get the better of me." Sunset huffed.
Jaxion Shadehorn frowned. "Now, gossip is fine and all, but he shouldn't have made such a harsh statement about how he felt. Something's up in Ponyville, I just know it by the way he acted. Would you like some more tea, Sunset?" He said, picking up the bag with his magic, setting it aside.
Sunset Glow considered this statement, frowning down at her hooves. As much as she didn't like the sound of it, maybe the sophisticated ponies of Canterlot were too far removed from the excitement to see the serious side of things. There was nothing she could do about that either, or even change the way she felt. "I suppose he is a little right, but regardless.. There has to be. He seemed quite upset at the mention of Ponyville." Sunset replied and glanced to her glass. "I would appreciate a little more tea, thank you."
Jaxion Shadehorn smiled and stood. "Don't look so upset. It is a nice night. Or day. I don't really know for sure." he laughed and got up to get Sunset more tea. "So, what does a fine Canterlot mare such as yourself do for a living?"
Sunset Glow gave herself a little shake and flipped her multicolored mane out of her face with a little flick of her hoof. "I am a dressmaker. I run a boutique here in Canterlot! I've even gotten some notice for it from more renowned fashioned designers." She replied, leaning forward to rest her hooves upon the table again. "However, business has been awfully sluggish as of late, with the current goings-on." Sunset said with an annoyed sigh. "It's nice to get a break from designing and making dresses, but it also leaves me bored and uninspired."
Jaxion Shadehorn frowned slightly, but then got an idea. "I wonder. . . Perhaps, as a way to fully open up to store to Canterlot, if you would enjoy having a chance to have a sort of display of your work at my establishment? Would that give you some new inspiration? I think it'd benefit the both of us, you know."
Sunset Glow idly rubbed at her chin with the tip of her hoof, looking thoughtful. "I'm not sure how a dress would assist in your shop.. however, I have an idea! Perhaps I could help design you staff uniforms for your new shop? That would certainly give me something to do."
Jaxion Shadehorn laughed aloud. "That could work well. I was thinking about letting you hold a sort of fashion show, showing off some of your work, while promoting my business. Also, might calm down someponies about the events in Ponyville."
Sunset Glow smiled a little as she nodded. "Yes.. that would be fun for the both of us. Of course, I'll have to coordinate with you on what you might want with the uniforms. I can't make any at random just in case it clashes with whatever theme or the like that you're planning for your restaurant." Sunset said and lifted her glass of tea for a quick sip. "Social distractions are always good."
Jaxion Shadehorn smiled. "Alright then, it sounds like a plan. Perhaps we could discuss the details during a meal sometime?" he took Pair's plate and cup and set them at the dishwashing sink.
Sunset Glow nodded her agreement and brushed any stray strands from the motion out of her face again. "That would be most pleasant, and I'm looking forward to it!" Sunset agreed, producing a few more bits as a tip for Jaxion.
Jaxion Shadehorn smiled. "When would be the best time for you?" He put the bits into the register.
Sunset Glow tilted her head, pursing her lips in thought. "I plan to explore Canterlot a little longer today before I retire to my apartment, however.. I can come again around this time tomorrow if that is convenient for you."
Jaxion Shadehorn nodded. "Of course, that'd be perfect. Not like I have much else to do myself." He chuckled. "It was nice to meet you Sunset Glow."
Sunset Glow smiled and nodded imperiously. "And a pleasure to meet you too, Jaxion. I look forward to seeing your restaurant flourish." She replied as she slid out of her cushioned seat. "I will see you tomorrow." Sunset would add as she made her way towards the door.
Jaxion Shadehorn smiled. "See you tomorrow. Enjoy your exploration of Canterlot! Perhaps I shall explore it a little myself as I'm still new here."
Sunset Glow gave Jaxion a little wave as she opened the door. "I shall, as you will too!" The mare would call back a final time before disappearing out in the street beyond.
Jaxion Shadehorn waived as she left, smiling to himself as he cleaned up.
Sunset Glow. The panic as of late over the reduced sunlight, and the circulating rumors, had been interfering with the noblemare's business. Very few ponies were visiting her boutique now, so she had little else to do but explore Canterlot. Jaxion Shadehorn pondered for a moment, having not have made a name for it yet. "Hmm. I haven't really thought of a name for it yet, honestly. How does Cafe Jaxion sound?" he laughed a little, thinking the name he had requested slightly ridiculous.

Sunset Glow responded with a slight, upward tilt of her lips before she waved a hoof at him. "Ah ah!" She admonished. "I do believe I am still waiting on what I ordered. She also had to wonder, why help him, he who would essentially be nothing but the help to his customers? Sunset supposed she had a little to make up for, after a certain past event with her own ex customer-almost friend.
